... now they must watch their abundance of luxuries fall away, making room for the tools of survival, and witness this time of relative peace wither into the same fears that harper's ballads had warned them about for generations.

At a time of day when the sun was at it's highest, the weekend gather was in full swing, bringing people from all walks of life into the Hold, swelling its population by the hundreds. Vendors were busy making trade and harpers and other street performers found themselves periodic niches to perform and tell their stories in, some setting out hats for tip collection. On a day like today, everyone wanted to see the sights and find the most exciting spot to gather 'round and hear stories of all the most recent news.

One spot in particular seemed to be attracting lots of spectators, eliciting Ooh's and Aah's, as well as a little challenge from those feeling brave enough to test their brawn. A man of somewhat large stature stood at the middle of them with an impressive-looking sword. The man brandished it with a puffed-out chest, flexing well-built shoulders and arms left bare since he wore a sleeveless tunic, ripped around the edges to make him appear even more rugged. The man had short, light brown hair and used a wax to spike it and he did nothing to hide the few scars on his face or arms, wearing them like a medal.

"That's right! Ha ha ha. I'm sorry I did not reveal myself earlier. I was just trying to be discreet." Of course he wasn't. The man spoke loud enough for everyone to hear. "But you figured me out! Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.... am Toshiro, hero of the rebellion."

A boy chimed in with enthusiasm, the light of excitement in his eyes, "I heard you killed a thousand rebels! Is it true?"

"Turns of fighting it took me, but it's true."

"Were they fierce!?"

"Fierce as a dragon fighting thread!"

"WHooooooaaA!" The children in the group stood back, wide eyed with awe.

The man with the sword put a hand on his hip while the other put the sword scabbard he held to rest over his shoulder. "There is no one great enough to defeat me, rest assured. Those rebels will never again return."

Some of the people clapped while the kids continued looking awed, beginning to jump around and pretend sword fight.

"I don't believe it!" A rival's voice boomed. "You're lying. No man can slay a thousand men. You don't look tough enough."

Aaannnnd, let the fun begin. Both men enjoyed sizing eachother up, and by the look in his eye, this was just what 'Toshiro' was waiting for. The man with the sword stood back on his heels for a moment, scowling in disbelief at the other. "There's no one here who could stand up to me. Are you suuuure you want to test your strength against me?" A grin spread across his features, which he couldn't hide because there were young girls tittering around them, who'd all gathered to watch the handsome men compete. They wanted to witness the swoon-worthy fighter of the rebellion in action.

"Sure. Let's see who's better. I'm not afraid of you. People play up stories anyway, just to make themselves sound great!" Without a sword though, he had no way to combat 'Toshiro', so 'Toshiro' secured his sword under his belt and took a stance to fight with his fists. Soon the two were swinging, putting on a show for all who watched.
