A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] Anightofmasquerade_zps47e529dc

Everything was perfect.

The Masquerade was set to begin, and most Weyrfolk had had the opportunity in helping to set things up for the event, seeing as it had taking much of that sevenday to pull everything together to make everything just right. Not an inch of the Gather Hall went undecorated, its walls and doors, tables and chairs, all of it adorned in grandiose fashion.

Of course, amoungst the candelabras set upon the tables as centerpieces down the length of long table-runners, the evening's main courses would have to stand out as exceptional fare to match the grande ball. And indeed, the large, stuffed wherries upon giant trays on a bed of stewed or grilled vegetables, looked absolutely delectable. Baskets of hot rolls, and every other imaginable dish to accompany it, created quite a bountiful spread.

While the cooks had obviously once again outdone themselves, the harpers too, seemed intent on spoiling the evenings party-goers. Dressed in their own fabulous costumes, fancy masked headdress and all, several of them had already begun strumming their instruments, filling the air with the alluring sounds of the latest and most popular ballads. It was a signal that the night had only just begun.

With tables set in a somewhat half-moon fashion near the walls, leaving the center of the Weyr's great Gather Hall open to dancers, only a few places showed to be reserved; which was at the head of the room, for the Weyr's leadership and their Seconds, should they choose to be seated together.

Across the room from where merry-makers could happily gorge themselves on the feast, a number of smaller tables were set for serving drinks and sweets. There, even the desserts and pastries were topped in a fanciful way, creating a whimsically coloured display.

With the final preparations in place, it was as if, on cue, the sun began to fade. Lighting was low, transforming the space into a most mysterious and magical mood; And as the night closed in on them, there came the time for Carnivale and Masquerade.

[All Fort Weyr characters welcome to join in the fun! Marc, Teylarrin's been Searched by now, and should join, too. Smile ]

A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] 7ffb54e4-f896-4d19-91e3-c22a870524c7_zps556ebdf7

Thanekar was prepared. He had plans to make the masquerade fun for everyone, even if they intended otherwise. Normally he would have had someone else do the dirty work but seeing as Brats weren’t allowed to attend the Masquerade, he’d have to do this himself. Tucking the flask into the inside chest pocket of the black jacket he was wearing, he took one more glance at himself in the looking glass. Placing the matching all black mask on his face, he smiled mischievously.

He wasn’t too young to care about girls but there were things one could do at these celebrations that were more fun to do than flirt and tease girls. He might grow into thinking those things were more fun at some point. He was not there yet.

So while he was perfectly happy to go enjoy the celebration, his idea of enjoyment and everyone else’s were probably vastly different. He was looking forward to his prank and having time to harass his sister and her friends if he got away with his first prank long enough.

A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] Raelestriata_zps57724bc4

Raelestriata had not been too terribly picky when she had been talking to the weavers. Except saying she wasn’t used to dresses. Now she was in a floor length gown of silver and white. Her hair was up in a messy do that wouldn’t look more tossed from dancing than it did already and the bonus was she didn’t have to wear heels with her gown.

She was really glad her friends all wanted to go as a group so she wouldn’t have to concern herself with who she was going with. Although she had been asked by a rider she had decided going with her friends would be more fun. Raelestriata never had trouble making a decision. Once she knew going with her pals was an option, she had decided that was how it would be.

So pacing in the common area of the barracks, she said, “C’mon guys, we gotta get a move on.” Her mask of white and silver feathers, made her look a bit swan like, especially given that she had a long and slender neck.

A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] Qrijn3_zpsfd798ad0

Hearing Raelestriata getting irritated, he immediately finished making sure nothing about his suit was out of order. He was wearing a maroon jacket, with black pants and a white shirt. He put the maroon and black mask over his face before stepping out of the male side of the Weyrling Barracks.

Nodding to the young woman who was insisting they hurry, he waited silently for the others to join them. Hopefully this would be his chance to get closer to T’veli. Although it seemed the other young man had yet to notice Q’rijn in any way other than as a class mate and potential friend. He wasn’t sure he had the guts to say anything. Such was the fear of rejection.

A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] Veyaheader3_zps98cd7ce9

Bouncing up and down in her new dress was probably not the best way to admire it. She was so very excited though! Her first big celebration, ever! She was watching the gown as she moved in the mirror. It may has well have been fire, the way it flowed around her slight form. She found herself constantly smiling. Though she wasn’t willing to admit that things like this dress could bring people happiness, at least not to some of the elitists she knew, the young blonde had to admit having nice things was actually kind of fun.

Her sister admonished her with a playful grin, “Sit still so I can finish your hair!” Jeyna was always so much more orderly. Her own gown was nice enough but not nearly as eye catching as Veyani’s. She of course had been ready a candlemark earlier.

They didn’t need to wait long for their brother to wrap his fingers on the door. “Done yet?”

“Almost!!” the young women said in unison.

As soon as the last bit of loose hair was up and pinned to Veyani’s head, they were out the door. Masks on and ready to have fun at the celebration, the three siblings were about to embark on a huge milestone together. They didn’t have anything that compared with this at the cothold.

A smirk came to the Bronzerider’s handsomely roguish features. He was going to kill it tonight. Celebrations, parties, gathers… they were totally his thing! Fun, wine, and beautiful women all dressed to impress. He could just imagine a beautiful young woman pressed against him during a dance. Oh, yes. He fully intended to enjoy himself.

Walking out of his weyr, dressed in a gray suit, with a white shirt, unbuttoned on the top half. His jacket cinching in one place where the only button was located, gave way to the appearance for his smooth chest. Before long he was knocking at N’kyr’s door.

“N’kyr!” He said loudly, not hiding the excitement in his voice. Now that his friend had finally had a taste of what he was missing, J’ace thought perhaps a celebration would be the best way to continue to expend the other man’s experiences. “C’mon. I don’t want to miss the Weyrwoman’s entrance…” And neither should he.

Bladen had been in a state of shock for the last few days. Ever since the Searchrider I’ver had brought him here, he had thought he was dreaming. He was old for a Candidate and it wasn’t as if dragons had not had a chance to come in contact with him before. Since he arrived just after Mahyeul and the caravan, it felt like a true family reunion.

Everything that had happened to him since going to Fort Sea Hold was divulged to the eager ears of his sister within a day of his arrival. Nothing was better than being around family. He realized when he had finally been able to spend time with them how nice it was to be there with them. He liked being a Guard but having the chance to become a rider had been too much to pass up.

The Guard turned Candidate, had arrived at a fortuitous time. The Weyr was preparing for a Masquerade celebration. Along with his sister, his cousins insisted they go as a group. The only thing left to do was arrange for something nice to wear. He was taller and broader than his cousins. They did manage to find something for him though, through lots of asking around and promising some kind of trade. The outfit was a rather standard tuxedo type set. He had a black and white mask to wear with it which Lance had acquired for him.

His sister was lounging in a chair, looking like she’d rather not have to go.

“I hate these events.”

“I would never have guessed.” Bladen replied with an eye roll. “You did promise Tasha and S’dric we’d all go together and Mahyeul too.”

She sighed, Lance didn’t particularly want to go. There were things that were better off without her present. Like dancing. She had gotten dressed up though, at her brother’s urging. She had been torn about what to do with her hair and such but in the end she decided to leave the black curls half down. Her dress was long, satin and purple and sleeveless but the weavers had added light blue gossamer sleeves which came together with a golden cinch just under her breasts.

Lance felt nervous wearing anything as revealing as this dress was but since her mother had sent it for her, she supposed she might as well honor the good intentions. Apparently someone was concerned about their daughter’s love life. Not that they need be concerned. She would do just fine at the Weyr where she wouldn’t be required to have any sort of long relationship unless she wanted one.

She got up off the chair she was sitting in as her brother offered her an arm. “Let’s go find S’dric and Mahyeul, then we’ll find Tasha because that will give her more time to get ready.”

Nodding in agreement, Bladen allowed his sister to lead, since she knew the best ways throughout the Weyr to get from one point to the next. He was still getting used to the number of passageways there were. One could easily get lost.

Teylarrin

Teylarrin was not at all used to this whole Weyr thing. She had only just arrived. She had not had time to make any friends. She had not even had the time memorize the layout of the place. But here they were having some fancy shindig. They could have at least given a gal the time to acclimate to her surroundings before they went and switched it all up. There was no point in complaining, though; that just was not her way.

Tey-Tey did not go all-out on her wardrobe. In fact she did not do anything special -save for the simple black mask, which was required. Her hair was its normal, stringy self, remaining in the same fashion that it been in when she had awoken that morning. She slipped on one of her plain white frocks, added a pair of thick leggings that were more really tall socks than stockings, and off she went.

She slipped down the passageways. She really ought to get those Blueriders to give her a proper tour. It was only fitting seeing as how she had given them one of her cothold. That was something that she was going to have to bring up later on. They were likely too busy to deal with her just then.

Since she did not know where anything was, Teylarrin simply followed the crowd of people that were streaming from the barracks.

A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr]   A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] I_icon32Fri May 16, 2014 8:48 pm

Belisse had been waiting for this evening for months now, her excitement building with each day. Her gown was perfect... a beautiful golden fabric that shimmered with the same hint of pink as her Jeneveth. The corset cinched her already tiny waist in even more, and the ribbons were a delicate blue-green that complimented the gown perfectly and nearly reached the floor. The off the shoulder design was a risky move for her, but she was pleased with how it showed off her well toned upper arms.

Her jewelry was just as carefully planned. The gold and turquoise theme was continued with three thin bangles, each set with a chunk of the stone, on each wrist, as well as a lovely ring in the shape of a flower with a flawless piece gem in the center. Her earrings continued the colors and stones, though now clear ones were added so that there was a cascade of color to her bare shoulder blades.

She was just finishing her hair now. She'd spent the past two candlemarks with a rod heated over coals and various gels and creams to smooth and hold her curls in place. The result was an artful tumble, with long tendrils escaping from a loose bun to trail down her back. One errant curl insisted on escaping in front of her face no matter what she did, but she supposed her mask would keep it from annoying her overly much.

And now it was time for the grand piece. She'd had it commissioned months ago from a sketch she had made. It had cost a small fortune, but in the end it had been well worth it.

Gold was hammered thin to cover the top half of her face, down to her nose. There it extended into a beak, though she'd made certain that it wouldn't interfere with a glass of wine. The top curled on both sides several times, above her head, and was studded with more turquoise gems. Smaller pieces of stone had been set in the mask itself, to give the appearance that her left eye shed tears of turquoise. A few more clear stones to catch the light, and she had a masterpiece in her hands.

She carefully put the mask on, well aware of it's fragility and expense. A smile spread across her face as she looked into her mirror. Belisse had practically disappeared, replaced by this strange woman of gold and blue. "Do you approve?" she asked Jeneveth, who was laying on her ledge lazily.

You look as amazing as always, my dearest one, Jeneveth responded, love in her voice. Belisse danced over happily and gave the gold a kiss on the muzzle, exciting a croon of happiness from her.

"I promise to be back before my curfew," she said teasingly as she slipped from her room, practically running to the Hall. She slowed and smoothed her dress and hair when she reached the doors, then took a deep breathe and stepped inside.

D'NIER
A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] Dongun16_zps164878dd

Enter the Weyrleader. Looking as suave as ever in his sharp vest and tuxedo-like jacket and dress pants with a black satin stripe down the side of each leg, D'ner had had crafted a half-mask with Bronze and black colouring to it, making it perfectly appropriate for his rank. Of course, the hand-painting upon it appeared much like a dragon's hide, gradually darkening in gradient. The mask completely covered his lost eye.

The Weyrleader had gone to pick up Weyrwoman Karene, escorting her to the Masquerade so that they could arrive together and make their grand entrance. Of course, he already had begun to smell a little like alcohol, because he'd taken some time before hand, to get the evening started with a couple of drinks. As would have been completely expected of the dashing man. Coming from Benden Weyr, he certainly knew how to enjoy his Drink.

As the two of them, he and Karene, came into the Gather Hall, D'nier paused a few steps inside the door for others to take notice of their entry. Then, leaning a bit in her direction, he spoke loud enough that it was just between the two of them, "Would you prefer to do social rounds early on, or after everyone's had time to eat?" Honestly, D'nier didn't care which they did; because either way, he'd be able to have a drink in hand.

S'DRIC
A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] Kim-Hyun-Joong16_zps14c21969

S'dric and Mahyeul had arrived together after a little last minute preparation so that Mahyeul would have something to wear. A mask, anyway. The rest of it wasn't hard to come by. The Brownrider himself, was in a suit of lustrous white threads that had contrasting black lapels, underneath of which, he wore a white, double-breasted vest and fine black button-up shirt with white tie. The mask which S'dric wore, was perhaps more plain than others as far as real embellishment, but it was painted with geometric black and white designs that complemented the rest of his clothing.

Thus far, S'dric had enjoyed that all of their family seemed to be coming together at the Weyr, and was spending time getting to know one another better. He appreciated that Mahyeul had traveled such a long way to make it here. And not just here, but he'd been to other territories as well, to visit distant relatives. S'dric had not had a chance to ask the young man yet, just why he'd decided to leave Balan Hold for such a prolonged period of time, just to travel and see family, but he supposed it wasn't necessarily odd that he'd done so?  Whatever the reason, for now, they were together, and should enjoy the time that they had in eachother's company..

While they sat at a table, having reserved enough seats in a particular section for all of the family and friends to be together, S'dric started sipping on his water while leaning over to ask, "Have you noticed some of the girls looking this way? I bet they think you're a new candidate." Either way, he was fresh meat; and generally, no matter what, fresh meat was typically more appealing...

MAHYEUL
A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] HuangYida8_zps958e26ca

Well, it was a miracle perhaps, but Sdric had actually talked Mahyeul into fitting into one of his suits he'd kept around from when he was younger. Grey dress pants with a soft, silvery finish on the threads, and a black dress shirt was it. Mahyeul though, had declined to wear the jacket, finding that the shoulders of it were too broad.  Likely though, it was only for this particular event that S'dric would have him in 'normal' dress clothes, seeing as Mahyeul had his own 'northern' style. His cousin however, would probably never be able to talk him into cutting his hair. The Guardsman had almost always worn his hair long... ish, and yet uninclined to care whether or not the length of it was a little extreme. Thus, like always, his black tresses were drawn back into a high ponytail. Mahyeul's mask, simple and all-black, tied about his head with a small knot just below where his hair was gathered at.

The young man had been very glad to have been asked to stay with Lance, Bladen and S'dric, given the chance to remain in Fort for a while longer. Quite a while longer, in fact. It kept him from having to return home to face the challenges he'd been trying to avoid confronting quite yet, there. That said, Mahyeul anticipated that his time at Fort Weyr would be quite exciting and fun.

Seeing as he would be rooming with S'dric, Mahyeul had been much in the company of the Brownrider cousin of his. It was good to find out that he and S'dric got along quite well and had more in common than not. So, while they waited for the girls and Bladen to meet up with them, the two sat and talked. They'd arrived a bit early.

At S'dric's observation, Mahyeul let his eyes wander, though he didn't turn his head much further... instead, he leaned over his place at the table, feigning any lack of interest as to whose eyes might have been upon him. Certainly newcomers to the Weyr were generally greeted and treated with some curiosity. More than anything, he found it mildly amusing. Maybe he'd pick up a dance partner tonight after all.

EMERENE
A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] Michelle1_zps7369fb83

Much like Veyani's crimson and orange gown, Emerene had fixed her eye on a dress of crimson and pearls. Unlike Veyani's gown though, her own was quite simple in design. The sumptuous satin fit to her small, but gradually budding figure, showing off the young curves of her body without the need to reveal excessive cleavage or leg. Cap sleeves with detail on the shoulder, and an open back where pearls fell, draping her warm, fair skin, might have been just as enticing. Her lips, too, were painted red, and her hair drawn into a partial up-do that held that perfect wave of her hair into an ornate twist. There were also pearls set into it.

Emerene's mask was dainty and covered in a crimson like her dress, but also partially in a black lace. Delicate black feathers upturned into an elaborate display to one side, though they weren't too over-done. Emerene liked to stand out, but she wasn't a peacock.

The girl entered with some of her friends, but didn't have a date, so that was a little disappointing, but she supposed that just left the evening open to making her own fun. Which was probably more fun than anything, as far as she was concerned. Maybe she'd get some Riders asking her to dance that way.

As soon as she'd come into the Hall though, Emerene caught sight of Veyani, and with a quick departing word, promising to return, she pranced off to speak with the girl.

"Veya! I can't believe how gorgeous the dress is! It almost looks like dancing flame. Absolutely lavish! Kai is just amazing, isn't he? I would say he should have stayed a Weaver so that we could monopolize him to make all of our clothes, but then he wouldn't be here at the Weyr, would he?"  Emerene giggled.

S'JIRO
A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] Db2d84bf-25bc-4a8b-b4bd-519a4dd2652f_zps9eb1660d

The Bronzerider wanted to be happy to be here. He wanted to be happy to have brought Indylari along, so that they could enjoy the Masquerade like everyone else. For S'jiro however, that seemed like an unlikely scenario.

Just a couple of days prior, he and his fiance had received a letter from their parents stating that an official date for their wedding had been decided on. The wedding would be in 8 months -which was more than enough time to make preparations. Especially when there was a lack of foreseeable limitation to the resources they'd be willing to pour into it to make sure that everything fell into place on time. They would be double checking dates of other main events that were to take place at other Holds and Weyrs to ensure nothing coincided with that one day they'd picked, so that invitations could be sent out. Then, S'jiro'd be a married man.

Upon receiving the notice from their parents, the Bronzerider had been angry. He knew that the decision to go ahead and set a date was his mother's way of taking control of his situation with Veyani. He had been too naive to think that if he could only somehow sow his family how much he truly cared for Veyani and was happy with her, that they would allow the two of them to be together without any further qualm. That wasn't the case though, and it infuriated him. S'jiro's mother knew precisely how to bend his will.

So it was that over the last couple of days, S'jiro had seemed to his friends as though he were back to his quiet, contemplative self -as he'd been prior to his meeting Veyani in months past. More focused and more serious, in that sense, he wasn't the same S'jiro he had been in Veyani's presence. He wasn't quite the same S'jiro that Indylari had known previously either. Whatever his mother had written to him, had instilled within him some sense of resolve, that hadn't been absent before. Whatever it was though, he wouldn't speak of it. At least he hadn't yet.

Thus, the Bronzerider had been sure to formally ask that Indylari accompany him to the dance and dinner party.

Garbed in one of his many, fine suits, S'jiro looked as well put together as always, putting on the usual airs of superiority and moderate disdain for those who were not part of the exclusive group of Bronzeriders he was well known for being a part of. Ready to play his part as a Masquerader, S'jiro 's mask was relatively ornate, and painted in a dark nickel-silver colour. The mask only covered a little more than half of his face, and did so at somewhat of an angle, cutting across from one side of his forehead to the opposite side at his chin; though it cut around his mouth, being sure not to cover it.

Together, the Bronzriders entered, as together they usually were, and each of them proved to have an exquisite woman on his arm, as Belisse had just come to meet with Sh'nar.

Of course, on entry, the group of them always stole much of the attention. So, as though on promenade, they took their time making their way to the private section of table usually set aside for them.

TSUKI
A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] KyokoFukada20_zps9b954a50

S'jiro's sister had attended the gathering separately, arriving early with her instrument in order to help set things up on the small, makeshift performance platform that had been erected. There, the Harpers made ready to entertain; Tsuki with her harp, tuning its strings.

The young lady Harper was dressed in an airy, baby pink dress, its low V neck closing under the bust where the charmeuse fabric wrapped, before the slightly pleated pattern fell in a liquid drape to her feet. There, her dainty toes, neatly trimmed, were barely visible in the matching, open toed slippers. Adorable bows decorated the sleeves at the front of her dress, another, much larger, decorating the back, the ends of it trailing into a short train. The girl's mask, also pink and white, covered much of her face, sure to conceal the scar there, which she considered so ugly.

NOVA
A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] D7226b88-a640-48d8-b66f-7176432039c1_zpse715f26a

It was early yet, and Nova had already discarded his suit coat. What were jackets like that for anyway? His dusky blue tie loose and top buttons comfortably undone, the Weyrling had little reason to be so formal.

Having trailed from the Weyrling barracks into the Gather Hall after Raelestriata, Nova couldn't take his eyes off of his classmate. He'd always had a thing for her, but of course never had the courage to say to her how he really felt. Still, at moments like this, he wanted to; and even kicked himself for not doing so in the past.

Raelestriata looked absolutely stunning in her gown, and they almost matched. His suit too, was all black and white with silvery embellishments on the cuff links and buttons. His belt, too, was white and silver studded. The only colour accents on his persona were the blue tie and the mask that covered most of his face in a gradient of blues that faded to white. Some design had been integrated across the mask to make it unique. A lot of crafters had spent many hours on the party masks so that everyone at Fort Weyr could happily participate.

As the group entered the Hall, Nova caught up to his friend, "Raelestriata. Do you want to sit by me, tonight? Then, we could dance later?" The boy's eyes were excited, and he could feel his heart race in his chest, anticipating that later she might take him up on the dance offer. And just maybe it would be a slow dance.

N'KAI
A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] Osamu34_zpsc24121e2

Arriving with Jezefine and another member of the artistic bunch of weavers who'd congregated to piece together some bawdy or otherwise outstanding costumes for the event's event, Bluerider N'kai came with his typical black dress trousers, and a bright red shirt. The shirt had small pleats down the chest, adding a stylish flare to it, and the wrist cuffs were slightly enlarged, having large cuff-links attached. His belt was moderately ornamented and his shoes, too, stood out, as they were patent leather and highly polished -though they appeared less 'trendy' and, with the hat he wore, offered a more traditional appeal. He was always mixing it up.

Together, N'kai and Jezefine went straight to the drink and desserts table, figuring they'd find friends there, before too long. At the least, they could loiter a bit as they watched others come in, then decide where they might want to stake out some chairs.

It wasn't long though, until N'kai had noticed the small girl he'd recently Searched, coming in through the door. For a moment, he stared after her curiously, thinking that she looked lost. Silently, N'kai wondered if he should go to her and offer that she could sit with he and the other Searchriders, or those in the group of Weavers with whom he often cavorted.

Andris saw Karene enter with Weyrleader D'nier and suppressed a sigh. What he wouldn't give for one event where they weren't Weyrharper Andris and Weyrwoman Karene. Perhaps they could sneak away one evening and hit a Gather on the other side of the continent... a small one where they wouldn't be recognized.

He cut quite the figure in his dark blue tunic and leggings, with a jewel toned blue cloak with dramatic silver stitching hanging across his shoulder. His mask was slashed down the center, leaving one side blue and the other side silver. He'd spent more time on the outfit than the mask, honestly.

He looked back at his harpers and nodded approvingly. They'd all dressed their best, and no one's masks would interfere with singing or instruments. "A slow dance to honor our Weyrwoman and Weyrleader?" he suggested, more of an order really. He brought his lute up and strummed it lightly to ensure it was still well in tune, and began to lead a ballad that was perfect for the first dance of the masquerade: upbeat and easy to dance to.

A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr]   A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] I_icon32Sat May 17, 2014 1:19 pm

Karene took ages to get ready for events like this. Having nursed Karendris before finishing her process of getting ready for the big event, she then spent time running her personal drudges ragged. It was not easy being a woman in power. Not only did she have certain standards to set, she had to set herself above them. Everyone expected something from her which she quite preferred to the opposite, which would be having no one expect anything. Her long strawberry hair was pulled up and into an intricately made golden net with black stones in it. This went with her gown, which was also black, with gold trim. She had the good fortune of being a slender woman with long legs and just slightly above average height.

Looking into her small wooden chest of jewelry, she picked out a few gold bracelets, three rings and a lovely golden necklace. Andris was already at the Masquerade, preparing the Harpers for their performances. She knew at these events it was rare that they even had a moment to spend together, so she would focus her attentions on her Weyrleader.

D’nier was preferable to some of her other options, so she really didn’t mind. Even if he did tend to flirt with every attractive woman he met, even perhaps the less attractive ones. She could not really fault him for it considering the entire time he had been at Fort weyr, she had been in a relationship with a non-rider. As far as she was concerned, what he decided to do with his personal life was fine, so long as it didn’t have an effect on their ability to work together.

She never had to worry about the Weyrleader not being on time to a party. When they arrived to the Weyrhall, the pause gave her a moment to appraise the room. Immediately finding Andris among the crowd of people, she answered D’nier, “Let’s get the formalities out of the way so we can do whatever we would like later.” She meant he could get good and sloshed if he desired and she would be free to disappear.

--

Since they had spoken, Indylari had been a bit torn. She wanted to try to be with S’jiro but she felt that pressure once again to be perfect for him, all the while knowing there was someone else he would much rather be with. The entire situation was unfair to her and although he refused to believe she was at all interested, she had hoped there would be some kind of spark. Something, anything that would have made her feel something. The antipathy she felt was almost worse than dislike in that she simply did not care one way or the other. She should be jealous. She should be raging inside that he loved someone else. But she wasn’t and that spoke more of her than it did of him.

Indylari spent many sevendays searching for just the right gown for the Masquerade. The top of the gown is brought in close to her skin with a corset, offset by a princess type skirt. The bodice has off the shoulder sleeves of chiffon. The corset is a deep bluish purple with delicate lace and beaded details along the edges. The dark lavender and silver chiffon in front of her dress reveal a flowery lace detail of lavender taffeta. She made sure to wear several of ber silver bangles and an and intricate silver comb to hold the top half of her hair back. Her mask was all purple and silver, with the main portion of it a dark bluish purple and the rtim being silver.

Thus far S’jiro had been the perfect gentleman, meeting her at her room, escorting her officially to the event, even making sure she was walked to the appropriate table. She had to wonder though, if it all bored him? He didn’t seem to be enjoying the evening. Indy hoped he wouldn’t embarrass her with any kind of display of affection. Weyr life had made him much more open about touching women then any Holder would dare to be. Of course that was why they all loved to dance. Touching while dancing was perfectly acceptable behavior.

---

The bronzerider stood in his room, unsure of his attire. He didn’t feel like these clothes really did him justice. The deep sapphire blue and black type velvet tunic, coupled with his black and silver belt and black boots that came up to his knee, were not bad, but not everyone wore the style. He had a mask of sapphire blue and black, which only covered to just past his nose. His blue eyes almost blending in with the mask except for being a couple shades lighter.

His dragon though assured him that regardless of what he was wearing, he would certainly get attention. They always did. Sh’nar only desired the attention of one woman though and he had to work hard to keep her interest.

Sh’nar had planned on meeting Belisse before the Masquerade but one thing led to another and they pretty much had to plan on meeting at the party. Of course he almost did not recognize her when she walked in. He stood staring for a good minute. Admonishing himself for gawking at the beautiful woman, he moved quickly, before any of the other men present got any ideas. “Lady.” He said with a swooping bow, “May I have the honor of escorting you to the head table?” And then on the way he might be able to convince her to allow him a dance.

---

Upon hearing the other Candidate call to her, Veyani parted ways with her brother and sister temporarily. She had promised to eat with them later but for now, she was more than happy to mingle with her friends.

Hugging Emerene Veyani, spoke excitedly. “Isn’t this amazing! N’kai really did out do himself. We should thank him later.” She was full of giddy delight. Trying to keep it in enough so as not to embarrass anyone. “Do you have any plans to dance with anyone tonight?” She wondered if the other girl had it all planned out. It seemed to her Emerene wanted to be asked.

Veyani even stopped glancing around her to catch everyone’s costumes to see Karene and D’nier enter.

And as she realized everything was about to begin, she wondered where S’jiro was. Surely he would seek her out before long. He had been a bit distant since the visit with his mother. Veyani didn’t know the extent of the control his parents had over him but she did know he took what his mother had said very hard. There was nothing he could do to change her mind. Ever the optimist though, Veyani was willing to try to prove them wrong. In Veyani’s mind, S’jiro would do what he said he would, he would stay with her as long as she wanted him to.

Even as her eyes searched the room, they first landed on Tsuki, maybe the other girl would be harpering tonight? Or she might be able to convince her to come and join, Emerene and herself and her brother and sister. They could all sit together.

Teylarrin

Teylarrin paused as soon as she entered the great chamber. She was certain that is was larger than her entire home had been. It must have taken ages to carve the room out of that mountain. The walls were all nice and smooth, too. No doubt the work of master craftsmen. It was nothing like the place that she had grown up in.

Her partially obscured eyes swept around the room. Everyone looked so lavish. It was like the stories that she had heard about Major Holds with everyone clad in something that would cost more than her tiny hold made in a Turn. And they all had gemstones and precious metals affixed to the garments. She could hardly believe it.

Her gray eyes fell upon N'kai. She instantly perked up. It was someone that she knew! Although 'knew' was a bit of an overstatement. It was more like 'someone that she had once met'. Either way, it was better than the no-company that she had now. And so she strolled over to him and his clique. She had to dodge around a few people before she reached him. She even bumped in to one girl. Teylarrin excused herself and kept on her way.

"Ah'd seen me some mas-raidahs 'fore," she said to N'kai by way of a greeting. "Bud id wudden nottin' like dis. Id wud mosely kin-sissing of uh lodda hollerin' and thievin'."

A giant smile spread across Belisse's face when Sh'nar approached her, her heart doing little flips in her chest. He looked incredibly handsome, and their outfits were complimentary even though they hadn't planned them together. Just another example of how perfectly they worked, she thought dreamily.

"M'lord," she replied, blushing prettily and offering her hand to him. "Thank you for your companionship." Her eyes twinkled under the gold mask with mischief. She would recognize her dear Sh'nar anywhere, but it was fun to play at being strangers for the moment.

When she took his arm she dropped the act though, running her hand against the soft velvet material. "You look outstanding tonight," she murmured, keeping her voice low so not to ruin the magic for anyone. "Though you always look outstanding... ," she finished, a wicked, suggestive little grin on her face.

PostSubject: Re: A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr]   A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] I_icon32Sun May 18, 2014 7:49 am

Sh'nar

Offering his arm to Belisse, he couldn't help but seem a little bit cocky. After all, what other man had a woman on his arm as beautiful and powerful as Belisse was? Of course, one had to take into consideration the Senior Weyrleaders but everyone knew neither Karene nor D'nier were devoted to one another. Perhaps that suited them but that was not what would work for he and Belisse. Not if Cymrioth upped his game. Maybe when Jeneveth flew next they would be settled at Igen and have fresh competition. This time, he doubted anyone would have the luck that K'thane had.

Upon hearing her words, he turned his head, to actually see her, because shard it, he had no peripheral vision with the mask on. "I am but a shadow to your radiance. No one is more beautiful than you are tonight." He took her hand and lifted it so he could kiss the top part of the skin there gently.

"I have no doubt you will be asked to dance by numerous suitors." Bronzeriders, especially, he thought darkly. He didn't like that they felt she was available to be danced with but it was his own fault. If he wanted her to belong to him, he would have to ask her to. The moment just had not been right. Not with all that had happened in recent months. They had both been very busy. He needed to ask her though, before they made the move to Igen.

"Since I'm not allowed to keep you all to myself for the evening no matter how much I would like to." And he would like to but it would be very bad form. "Promise you will spare a few dances for me... at least one slow dance."

Raelestriata

When they made it to the Weyrhall, after what felt like an eternity of waiting, she heard Nova address her. As her best friend, she sort of expected that they would be sitting next to eachother. Maybe she had been a bit cavalier about the party because they were all going as a group. She had certain thoughts already in mind without really considering that this was a situation wherein she may have chosen to meet a male companion here who was not her friend. Well, she had already told the one guy who had stated interest she would be going to the event with her friends. She doubted that anyone else would ask. Maybe Nova was looking out for her?  Still it did strike her as a bit odd that he would ask permission.

"Of course. I mean we always sit together, why would tonight be any different?" She asked but the question was more rhetorical if he didn't wish to answer. She'd finally figured out why the whole asking thing made her curious. He asked her for a dance but it wasn't like he couldn't dance with her whenever he wanted to. He sounded nervous. Had she done something to make him think she wouldn't want to dance?

"I'd love to dance with you later." She said with a smile, not really reading any further into things. When had she ever turned down a good dance partner?

Lancelle

Lance knocked loudly on Tasha's door. "Hey Tasha, are you ready?" She asked loudly. Hopefully the other greenrider was about to walk out of the door. No introductions were necessary as the greenrider had already met her brother. She wondered what Tasha would be wearing. Hopefully she would be dressed up as much if not more so than Lance, then maybe people would stare at the other woman and leave her alone.

As soon as Tasha was ready, they would make their way to the Weyrhall where they could meet up with S'dric and Mahyeul.

A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr]   A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] I_icon32Sun May 18, 2014 1:21 pm

TSUKI

Tsuki saw how the Master Harper looked upon Karene as the Weyrleaders came into the Hall; she knew that longing gaze, even through the eyes of the mask he'd donned. It was the same kind of gaze that she'd pinned on Sh'nar in the recent past, knowing that he was unwilling to return her feelings. Even though her brother and he were best friends, he'd likely never look her way. Not the way he looked at the Junior Goldrider Belisse.

It was strange for Tsuki to have the sudden thought then, that perhaps Belisse had more to offer him than she did. No matter how well bred she was, Belisse still had her Queen. Was there nothing that could compare to that?

Again, strangely, the thought made Tsuki long for the home of her High Hill Hold, feeling as though perhaps she'd have been better off living there, as a shunned child, than at a Weyr where she had to feel like even less of a person. At least at the Hold, she only had to face one case of rejection.

Tsuki snapped out of her reverie when Andris called for the next song, in honour of the Weyrleaders. After people had had a chance to sit down to eat a bit and visit, they would be drawn to the dance floor; which is when it would be best to play their more upbeat tunes. At that time, Tsuki wouldn't have quite as many pieces to participate in playing, so she could slip away for a while to see her Brother and perhaps Veya. Though, she hadn't seen either of them for a couple of days, and wondered if they had decided to come together.

S'JIRO

The Bronzerider greeted Belisse when she arrived, as would have been appropriate, especially seeing as she was Junior Queen. After seeing Sh'nar's extravagant display of chivalrous affection in the way that he greeted her however, the Bronzerider's eyes turned back down to Indylari, continuing to feel as though she dreaded being there with him as much as he with her; though he wouldn't say it out loud. Their parents had both been very adamant in their ultimatums that the two of them be together. So, they would be together. His mother was probably right anyway. Over time they would learn to love one another. His mother and father's relationship too, had begun as more of a business arrangement than love, but they now cared very deeply for one another and did not regret their being paired. S'jiro and Indy too, would have to learn to live like that.

It wouldn't be so bad.

To tell the truth, Indylari was a lovely woman. In the past, he would have thought even more so. The sumptuous dress she'd worn with delicate details, obviously of such fine make and fashion, that it could only have been sewn by a Master Weaver, was probably going to be one of the most stunning gowns at the party. He could imagine slowly removing it from her maiden body, knowing that she'd never let a man touch her before -no more than he had, which was little enough. But somehow, even though he should have anticipated that -perhaps only on their wedding night- S'jiro couldn't help but feel something totally amiss about that imagining.

Though Indylari was beautiful and desirable, he didn't desire her. His was discovering that his tastes in women had changed since meeting Veyani.

As the group went to their usual table set aside and away from others, S'jiro kept his eyes from straying too far. He avoided trying to search out Veyani, if she were here yet, which was difficult for him, but he was not here to cavort with her as he'd done in the past. His parents had made certain he remembered who he was, and where his place was amoungst the elite on Pern, and that there was no benefit in setting his eyes on a woman like Veyani -unless of course, she were to Impress a Gold. And though S'jiro had reminded his mother at one point that that could very well happen, and thus there was no reason to cut Veyani out of his life, she hadn't fallen for it. Lady Kinna had no belief in that common people such as Veyani could rightly impress a Gold.

Politely, S'jiro pulled Indylari's chair out at the table for her, so that she could be seated.

Z'rim and his date seated themselves on the other side of Indylari so that Sh'nar and Belisse could sit beside S'jiro.

EMERENE

Emerene was unable to contain her own giddiness through the smile she wore, when Veyani turned to her. "I know! I almost didn't recognize you!

"I don't have any plans yet. I thought that coming without a date would allow for greater opportunities later, when the dancing starts." The girl winked, laughing a bit deviously, though in all truth, she'd simply not gotten a soul to ask her on a date. It was frustrating really, and all the more reason she wanted to nab a handsome rider or two for the dance floor later. That would make some of the other girls at least a little jealous, who constantly gossiped behind her back about why men just didn't seem to be interested in her.

Emerene knew the reason, and her friends knew the reason, but jealous girls just didn't understand what it was like, being the Weyrwoman's daughter. And a lot of people who didn't know Emerene simply assumed she was probably difficult to approach or stuck up because of who she was. It kind of came with the territory, the stereotyping of those born to parents of great influence. That said, Emerene was lucky to have a friend as honest and kind as Veyani.

While Veyani's attention had been momentarily distracted by Karene and D'nier, Emerene also turned back toward the door. Soon after the Weyrleaders passed through though, moving on to take their seats, she caught sight of the Bronze foursome, each with a date on their arm, arrive.

Eyes and mouth both wide, Emerene, for once in her life, was rendered speechless. Spinning around to face Veyani again, she stepped into the other candidate's line of sight so that she could block her view; as though that would keep her from noticing something amiss.  The look of shock was still upon her face though, searching her friend's eyes for any kind of communication.

"You two are together, right? You and S'jiro?" For now, that was all she could manage to say. But in her mind, she wondered if she was wrong to think why the Bronzerider had come to the Masquerade with someone other than Veyani? Even though she hadn't had the chance to hear all the details from Veyani's own mouth just yet, she'd heard from multiple sources that the girl had been chosen as a bed mate by S'jiro after losing a Greenrider's maiden flight. And that, of all things, they'd stolen the Candidate Master's office to do their deed in. Emerene had laughed all day when she found that out. She could only imagine the CM's face when he realized he was being kicked out of his own office by a Flight Lust filled Bronzerider.

NOVA

The weyrling felt a little silly for asking his friend to sit with him and dance with him, after she pointed out so blatantly that they always did those things together -it was a given, wasn't it? All the same, he'd known, and so had she, that she'd had every opportunity to accept invitations to the Masquerade, and thus give him cause for worry that perhaps she had reserved her time and a seat for someone else. It was that kind of event, after all. Still, he stuttered through a nervous chuckle, "Eheheh, I-I guess it's not."

With an adorable, sheepish grin, Nova continued to walk beside her, and with just a little more confidence. At least, even though this were a formal party, she hadn't abandoned the idea of being with him completely, even though she could have set her expectations or her eyes on some other rider.

Naturally then, his eyes brightened even more when she agreed to dance with him. "Awesome! Where do you want to sit?" The Bluerider looked out over the dance floor and the tables around the outskirts of the room, looking to see if anyone else they knew had already taken seats somewhere where the rest of the class could join them.

A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr]   A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] I_icon32Sun May 18, 2014 2:45 pm

Indylari

It really wouldn't be so bad if either of them had any real attraction for one another. Maybe it was simply because they looked at it as forced and not something they would have chosen which made their attraction completely dissolve. It wasn't as if either of them were unattractive but Indylari didn't feel anything. There was nothing she could do about it. They were going to be stuck in a passionless, loveless marraige forever. It was depressing to think about actually.

So she focused instead on the beauty and brilliance of the evening. Every little detail the Headwoman had seen to, she too had seen to, at least she could say she had helped organize this event. If she continued to do well, she might be the Headwoman's number one assistant. If she couldn't be a Goldrider right now, she might as well be the next best thing.

She followed S'jiro's lead, sitting in the chair that was pulled out for. "Thank you." She said, as she sat down. She was trained to be graceful, so it was no wonder that she made sitting in a chair look like an art form. Her desire to be as perfect as possible in order to please S'jiro seemed to always have the opposite effect on him. As he already looked half bored.

Indylari focused her attention across the table to the woman next to Z'rim, "The fabric of your gown, what is it? Did you have it made here at the Weyr?"

Veyani

When Emerene blocked her view, she raised an eyebrow curiously. She couldn't help but question what reasons the other young woman might have for blocking her view. Then there was the weird question. Of course she and S'jiro were together. Even if he hadn't come with her to the Masquerade he had made it quite clear over the last couple of sevendays that he meant to be with her.

"Yes, we're together." She kind of thought the other girl would get to her point then and not leave Veyani wondering but maybe she ought to ask. "I told him I was falling in love with him...and he asked me to stay with him. He has since been very serious about us being together." He'd taken her to meet his mother, even if things had turned out opposite of what he wanted.

"Why? Is something wrong?"

Veyani had yet to look for S'jiro among the masked faces around the room, so she had no idea if he was there already. She assumed he would come looking for her when he was ready to be in her company instead of hanging out with his Bronzerider friends.

Raelestriata

Raelestriata had almost never seen Nova nervous but he was now. She resisted the urge to ask him why at first. Maybe after they sat down...errr, maybe not. She didn't want him to feel uncomfortable around everyone else. It might have something to do with one of the other Weyrlings. Probably better to talk to him during a dance.

"How about over near the food?" She asked, pointing to a mostly vacant table. "We could all fit there and it'll be easy to grab food and drinks when we want to." Raelestriata, didn't really wait for agreement from everyone else, she simply started heading that direction.

She stood next to the table. Yeah, this position would be fine. She didn't plan to sit much anyway. "I don't know about you all, but I plan on dancing more than sitting."

Q'rijn

The young man was generally the silent type. He followed the others, allowing himself to kind of blend in. His only concern was that T'veli and V'nius were not lost in the shuffle on the way to the table. Raelestriata had a point. It would be a good idea to sit nearest to the refreshments.

Q'rijn, for all his thoughts on being homosexual, was not sure he was prepared for everyone to know about his preference for men just yet. Then again, he really didn't want to pass up the opportunity to dance with men whom he found attractive, rather than women.

While he contemplated his decision, he took a seat at the table, casting a glance as the dance floor as several people had begun to enjoy the dancing part of the evening's festivities.

PostSubject: Re: A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr]   A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] I_icon32Sun May 18, 2014 6:37 pm

Emerene

Even in their masked appearance, it was impossible not to easily identify the Bronzerider foursome, seeing as they generally appeared together -especially at events like this. Emerene was infuriated though, that, especially after proclaiming his love to her friend, he didn't have the balls to ask her out to the Masquerade with him. Always a jerk! And it astounded her that Veyani was just going to let him get away with it, continuing to believe him.

The displeasure was evident on her face even as the expression altered into one of a little more resignation. "Well, look-see for yourself. Did he actually ask you to be his date? He's here with someone else. Are you sure you can believe what any of them say?" Referring to the Bronzrider's elitist circle.

Of course, if Veyani thought that S'jiro had been nothing less than absolutely truthful with her, she had no real right to discount his word. But still...

Nova

The Bluerider had to agree. More dancing, less sitting. He didn't disagree with her choice of seating either. Closer to the desserts, though there was plenty of food already on the tables themselves. He was sure that wherever they chose to sit however, there would be no lack of feasting.

"Looks good to me." Nova watched as a few dancers took to the dance floor, obviously opting to get a little exercise before gorging themselves. Working up an appetite didn't sound like such a bad idea either. But, he would do whatever Rae wanted to do, because she was who he wanted to spend most of his time with.

Glancing around the room again, he waved over a couple of their classmates, motioning that they should join them before the tables started getting too full. "We should hang out here for a little bit though, to make sure everyone knows where we're sitting." Because it was only natural that most of their weyrling class would want to be seated together. Just as they'd arrived together -mostly.

S'jiro & Z'rim

Z'rim poured himself and his date some water, while the two women started up in conversation. Eylee was a sweet girl, and he was glad to be able to bring her, but she was a little too shy for his tastes. She was from a well to do family, and likely to Impress in this next clutch, but she didn't quite bear the particular demeanor that a highborn generally possessed. The young woman did present herself well, and he appreciated her warmth, but still... she seemed to lack the backbone it took to survive in a world like theirs. And honestly, he wasn't into girls he had to over-protect. So, perhaps it would be better that she Impressed, than let her go back to the Hold, or remain here as something else other than a Rider.

Eylee's eyes lit up when Indylari spoke to her, "You know, I believe it is some kind of satin. My father sent it to me, but I hadn't had the opportunity to wear it before now. We have the most wonderful Master Weaver at Retallek Hold. He must put so many other hands in the craft to shame."

Seating himself, S'jiro waited until Z'rim's date filled Indylari in on her dress before he interjected, "Indylari, what kind of wine would you like? I'll go get us a couple of glasses to go with the meal."

In truth, though the Bronzerider was thirsty, and he needed a glass or two to knock off the uncomfortable edge of the evening, he also subconsciously continued to wonder if Veyani'd arrived yet. Even though he'd decided to put their relationship behind him, for the good of he and Indylari's families, he hadn't told her that yet; and he still had a hard time not wanting to see her. It was tempting fate that he should seek her out at all, on a night like tonight, but it couldn't be helped. He simply couldn't help wanting to be with her tonight. Maybe one last time, before he had to break her heart.

S'jiro however, hadn't thought far enough through things to know exactly when or where he'd tell Veyani what he'd decided on, where his engagement to Indylari was concerned. As far as she knew, he was still determined to never be with his betrothed.

A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr]   A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] I_icon32Sun May 18, 2014 6:56 pm

Indylari

Still admiring the gown the other woman was wearing, she wanted to ask another question of the shy woman, when S'jiro interrupted. Smiling as kindly as she could manage, "A white wine, would be fine. Thank you." She replied politely. Meanwhile, she had to agree with the young woman across from her, "Indeed, he must be. I'd like to know how to contact him, perhaps I can send something via your family." If anyone knew anything about Indylari it was that she always had to have the best when it came to clothes and accessories. She would scrimp and save for the best, she didn't care. This new fabric, she wanted something made with it.

It might be one of the times, her face was alight with animated spirit. Helping with decorating the Weyrhall had elicited the same spark in her though. When she had time to work with the headwoman, she found herself building confidence in areas where she might have previously been too shy to attempt.

Even as she admired and made plans for a dress, the one she was wearing put most of the others here to shame but not all. There were several she would have loved to wear. She loved these types of events for the ability to see what everyone was wearing, the room awash with a myriad of colors and textures. She didn't seem to notice or care if S'jiro was taking a bit longer with his drinks than he should.

Veyani

The blonde looked up to where they elite were sitting. There was Indylari with S'jiro. Veyani wondered if perhaps his parents were putting pressure on him again or if Indylari had simply needed an escort. She made all kinds of excuses for him in her mind which were probably not accurate. "No, he didn't but I figured we'd meet up once we were here. "

She shrugged. "I'd rather hear from him what is going on and I would rather not do so in front of the people seated up there." So she would wait but she didn't have to wait long. "He has never had cause to lie to me before and he shouldn't now." Was all she said on that topic. Eventually the truth always came out, even if one didn't want to hear it.

Seeing S'jiro on the move from his table, she thought perhaps she might be able to catch him before he went back to the table with his friends if only to tell him to meet her later.

"I'm going to get a drink." And she wondered if Emerene would catch on fast enough to stop her. Veyani walked over to where the wine glasses were set and picked up a red wine. Taking a slow sip, she half breathed in the wine in order to better taste it.

PostSubject: Re: A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr]   A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] I_icon32Sun May 18, 2014 9:43 pm

Emerene

Veyani just 'figured'? Emerene almost facepalmed right there. Sure, Emerene didn't have men lined out the door asking her out on dates, but she'd certainly heard horror stories about certain things a girl just couldn't trust in a guy for.

Well, whatever. She couldn't tell Veyani one way or the other. Veyani was too stubborn to be talked out of things like this.

Still, Emerene had to admire Veyani's Faith in S'jiro, and that she had a Bronzerider -let alone one of the famous four- fawning over her at any point, anyway. Emerene was in fact, quite jealous. Even if Veyani's relationship with him did end up in a horrific break up before too long.

So caught up in her own thoughts, Emerene hardly realized when Veyani started walking away from her. Looking startled, her eyes followed her friend, trying to call after her, "Veyan-", before realizing it was simply too late to stop her from going her own way.

With that, Emerene rolled her eyes, and giving a shake of her head, decided to catch back up to her other friends.

S'jiro

Having approached the drink table, the Bronzerider was oblivious yet to the fact that it was Veyani who stood beside him there. His eyes had been downcast at first, too any things on his mind to focus on what was really around him. S'jiro did observe her dress however, from the bottom hem, most of the way up, as his head lifted to bring his eyes to the bartender who was there to fill orders.

Fleetingly, he'd thought that the woman's figure must be a little like Veyani's, but since the glance was subtle so as not to make the woman or anyone else think that he was eyeing her too intently, he didn't have time to make any contact with the eyes behind the dress-owner's mask, let alone realize the recognition there. Instead, he spoke to the bar tender. "Something white -the best you have; and a semi-sweet Benden."

Acknowledging the Bronzerider, the barkeep picked up a couple of glasses appropriate for the different wines S'jiro had ordered. At that point, the Rider leaned on one elbow against the counter top there, angling himself so that he could turn his gaze back across the room so that just maybe, he'd spot someone of particular interest.

His eyes though, fell on the woman next to him, unable to ignore her presence there since she was standing close by. He had a hard time thinking that she wasn't quite pretty, too. But just as he fixed his glance upon the young woman's face, about to berate himself for being rude and staring, he realized who she was. Instantly, S'jiro's heart jumped in his chest; and so that he wouldn't be seen speaking with her in too-friendly a manner, he turned himself back around to the bar counter, leaning upon it over both forearms.

Though even from behind his own half-mask, the Bronzerider's eyes couldn't hide the delight he felt, the rest of him seemed more poker-faced than he'd probably ever been around her. He probably seemed to her more like the first time they'd met.

"Veyani." It was spoken almost breathlessly.

Of course he would find this particular woman pretty. Just his luck, he'd run into the one person he did and didn't want to see. Though, admittedly he was 'looking' for her.

S'jiro swallowed a little nervously, wondering not for the first time, if Veyani was going to be irate for not asking her to come here as his date. After all, she'd probably expected it, after everything that'd happened between them. Had she even seen him come in with Indylari?

They were all questions that he was probably shortly going to have answered.

Letting it be the smallest distraction to him when the barkeep came back to him with the drinks he'd ordered, the Bronzerider took that that time to compose himself a little more convincingly. And as he waited for Veyani to say something to him, his heart filled with a terrible guilt.

No. It wasn't just guilt that he felt. S'jiro felt his heart being squeezed inside his chest like it might cave in. It was something he'd never felt before, and it felt terrible. It was a lonely and desperate sensation, and it made him feel a little sick.

Teylarrin

Teylarrin stood with her hands clasped behind her back. She wiggled one leg, twisting her foot back and forth on its heel. She kept her lips pressed tightly, occasionally opening with a smack. She watched people milling about. They were talking, smiling, drinking, having a merry ole time.

She looked over at the man standing next to her. She had been there for about seven or eight minutes, she reckoned. Still N'kai had yet to answer her. Some things were the same no matter where you lived. "Ridey-oh." She gave up on waiting for him and walked away.

Teylarrin did not head in to the crowd. Instead, she went the opposite direction. She followed the draft down a hallway until she found the exit. She stepped out in to the night air. She hugged herself against the chill. It was a lot colder here at Fort Weyr than it was back in the Igen desert.

Teylarrin circled lazily around the bowl. She kept her eyes mainly on the larger of the moons as she meandered. It was bright and shining up in the sky. It looked like it was having a good time, too. Hurray for it.

She finally came to the large lake at the Western end of the Weyr. She could not travel any further in that direction so she decided to just stop. Teylarrin pulled her mask off. She stared at it. It was black. There were no frills, no decorations. It was plain. Just like her. She tossed it in to the water. Who needed a mask when you were already invisible?

Teylarrin sat down in the grass. She drew her legs up, hugging her knees to her chest. She watched the mask roll on the gentle waves until it sank beneath the surface. Then she just stared at the water.

PostSubject: Re: A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr]   A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] I_icon32Mon May 19, 2014 8:06 pm

Veyani

Now that she had anticipated where he was going, she turned around, facing away from the table and the barkeep and out toward the party. Taking another sip of her wine, she pretended not to notice the man admiring her form as the dress clung to her small almost nonexistent curves. S’jiro seemed not to realize who she was at first, which was for the better. Or if he did know, he still seemed a bit surprised.

She took another slow sip of wine while he tried not to engage her in conversation. So he had come with Indylari and he planned on being an elitist snob for the entire evening, she thought, quite envious that he was free of feeling at all bad about treating her the way his mother wanted him to. Well she had no doubt know what his family could be like.

“S’jiro.” She spoke, as if barely acknowledging he was there. But he was there and she couldn’t ignore that he had said her name in such a breathless manner. Her eyes slid just enough to see his tall, well dressed form beside her. Whatever she might be thinking, it wasn’t enough to take away from what she was feeling. He was not treating her like she should be treated. She knew that. Emerene had made it clear that she was acting completely ridiculous and all for a feeling. A feeling which she thought was mutual. However, if he thought she could forgive him for this, just by his acknowledgement that she did in fact exist, well he was wrong.

Finishing off her wine, she set it down on the table. Putting a steady hand on S’jiro’s shoulder she whispered in his ear, “See you around.” Her tone might have been just the slightest bit suggestive but she did walk away from him without a single glance backward. She had other friends, other men who would be more than willing to dance with her. If S’jiro wanted to act like he barely knew her and wanted to escort another woman to an event like this, that was his perogative.

As she joined some of the other Candidates, she settled into normal conversation, laughing and joking around with some of them. Her brother and sister were there, and seemed content not to bring up S’jiro at all. Even if Veyani had played it cool, that wasn’t how she felt. The envy she felt for Indylari while hidden under the surface of her happy demeanor, was still there. S’jiro wouldn’t know how she was feeling though. He had nothing to be jealous of. She had come with her siblings and friends and not with some other guy. But she never was good at being mad at people. She had a forgiving nature.

N'KAI

The Bluerider, having just opened his mouth to respond to Teylarrin, whom he'd just recently brought back on Search, was stopped short by a group of friends come to join him. Voices raised over one another in greeting, jumping right into conversation, and before he knew it, he'd become completely distracted by it, unable to fulfill the intention of answering the young girl. It wasn't until she'd already trotted off, out of sight, that he realized she was no longer there.

The Bluerider's eyes searched all about the Gather Hall for Teylarrin, but did not find her. Soon, Jezefine was inquiring after his curious glances, but seeing as Teylarrin was no where to be found, he shrugged it off, leading them to the tables set for feasting alongside their friends.

[Marc, imma start a post for the brat pack and TeyTey tomorrow! i didn't have time t'nite bc had to run some errands and had a dr appointment.]

S'JIRO

What was this?

Veyani certainly wasn't herself. Maybe he needed to confiscate the wine glass from her hand and give it back to the bar-keep. Though,... it wasn't as though he was acting any more 'normal'.

S'jiro hadn't been expecting her to address him quite like she did, and her tone of voice caused thoughts to crop up in his head, that led him to several very different conclusions about just what she intended by those words. As she put a hand on his shoulder and then walked away, his own briefly unguarded expression, likely reflected the confusion he was experiencing.

Was Veyani telling him that she was tired of him showing up with Indylari, and she'd finally decided to break up with him? Somehow it was strange that he actually feared that outcome. Even though within the next few days, he'd fully intended on ending everything between them.

Or was it that Veyani was suggesting that she knew what had likely happened, and that she understood, but wanted to at least get a little time with him later? She did know now, first hand, just how his mother could apply pressure to get him to fulfill her wishes, and his mother had made it clear that things were not 'over' between S'jiro and Indylari. At least as far as she was concerned.

The Bornzerider stared after the woman he would much rather have accompanied here tonight, finally snapping his jaw shut to adopt that previous limn which was much more resolute. He couldn't help though that his gaze flitted between his dinner table and where the Candidate girl had retreated to, completely indecisive about his next course of action.

If he returned to his dinner party now, S'jiro would be stuck there until the wine needed refilling, or she snuck off to the ladie's room. He might not get another chance to escape her; whereas, for now, she was quite preoccupied with her conversation. Not to mention, if he sat back down, he might lose sight of Veyani, and not have the chance to catch back up to her again later, even if he did manage to escape. Or in the worst case, if he did not pursue her now, Veyani might just think that he simply didn't want to see her again, later in the evening.

So it was then, that even with both hands full, the Bronzerider took the opportunity to trail after Veyani. When he came up beside her though, taking the attention of those around her chatting, so that the conversation was thoroughly interrupted -at least enough for him to interject- he fit both glasses into the hold of his left hand so that he could take a gentle hold of her arm with the other. There, he urged her to turn and face him. While Indylari remained distracted was the only time he'd have to speak with her.

"At least one dance. Or perhaps you'd join me for dessert?"

S'jiro's voice was laced with a perfectly grave undertone, so that when they met eyes, he might understand that he was being serious. And perhaps she might read more into it than that, because in all honestly, the 'dance' part was just to get her away from her friends, but the 'dessert' part was more about escaping together -and maybe meeting somewhere else. Only, he couldn't say what he really menat. Not in front of her friends like this. But, he knew deep down that Veyani would be able to read all the intended subliminal messages.

PostSubject: Re: A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr]   A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] I_icon32Tue May 20, 2014 7:39 pm

Thanekar

The young Candidate, spent most of the beginning of the evening in search of “the moment.” Not that kind of moment! He wanted the moment when all eyes would be elsewhere. When no one would take a moment to look at him. He had worn all black so he wouldn’t stand out and where did it get him? Nowhere.

He was constantly being stopped and talked to by adults asking him silly things. No he didn’t enjoy parties! Ewww, dance with girls? Were they serious? Of all the dim witted things to ask! Yes, yes he was going to Impress a Bronze. As if there were any doubt. Shaking his head, he finally started to understand what it felt like to be a Gold dragonet. Being noticed was not fun.

As people meandered, mingled, ate and drank around him, Thanekar finally found his way to the punch bowl. The music was playing, events around him were progressing to the point where most people were now too focused on their friends, families and romantic interests to notice a Candidate. Somedays he really wished his mother was a drudge.

He was careful, slicker than oil on a wet dragon’s hide. Yep. He was going with that phrase! Thane deftly took the flask from the inside pocket of his jacket and while he figured no one who would notice was watching, he poured the contents into the punch bowl.

Veyani

Not expecting him to follow her she didn’t notice he was there until everyone around her suddenly stopped talking, as if waiting for him to say something. She was pulled by one arm to look at him and she did look straight into his eyes. Staring, she was waiting for him to say something. Anything really that would hint to his preference for her company. What he said was strangely ambiguous for all his seriousness. No one else seemed to understand beyond that he wanted to dance with her and dine with her later. She took it to mean something very different.

He was thinking about how they were going to spend time together this evening, she realized. Maybe he wasn’t really here with Indylari in the way she thought he was? Although why didn’t it feel like he was free to see her whenever he wanted? Well she wasn’t going to over think this tonight. If she was still staring at him, then he would have to forgive her. She couldn’t help but feel a sense of apprehension coming from him. Did he think she would turn him away?

A mischievous glint in her eye she said, “Dessert huh?” A hand came unbidden from her side to hold his jaw as she drew herself up a little in height in order to plant a sudden, passionate kiss on his lips. Breaking away after about ten seconds, she whispered so only he could hear her, “A morsel to tide us over.”

Louder she said, “A dance first then?” She said, with an eyebrow quirked up. Even if the dance was an excuse to whisk her away she thought she might actually enjoy some dancing. “I’ll be wanting some dessert either way, it is one of my favorite things.”

Maybe he was beginning to see how much she loved him? Even when he did something cruel, she forgave him. She looked past the bad things he did to her even now to have the chance to see the good he did too.

A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] Ogurishun0_zps2ebc9951

S'jiro had to keep a firm grasp on his senses when Veyani stood on her tip toes to land a kiss on his mouth. The action had completely caught him off guard. Why was she always doing that?

A morsel indeed, that kiss. But it would hardly tide him over. She should know that he always felt attracted to her and a kiss like that would only get him warmed up for more.  In any case, he had no choice but to return her osculation, seeing as how ardent she'd become all of a sudden. But still, his enthusiasm was lacking the same feeling that it imparted while they were alone.

Nevertheless, the Bronzerider was hardly able to keep himself composed. His body wanted to react under that impulse, and in the way that he'd always done when their lips met. But he couldn't, here.

The kiss also confused, and even hurt him; because just after, he had to remind himself that after tonight, all chance of them being together, was lost. Hiding it in his expression as quickly as he could, the Bronzerider stepped back from her, turning his head aside as he finished collecting himself again, and just out of his periphery tried to discern whether or not Indylari had seen it happen. Clearing his throat, seeming a bit stunned still, S'jiro tried to let go of the complexity of feelings that only became more compounded within him.

Meeting Veyani's eyes again, he took one glass into each hand once more, so that he could keep a firm grasp on both. There was no need to go dropping one of them if she surprised him again.

Anyway, at least he knew she understood what he'd meant. He wanted to spend some time with her later.

"Of course you'll be wanting dessert." He spoke a bit wryly, because that was always the case, and a given, considering what it entailed.

After that, he couldn't help but smirk at her comment that dessert was her favourite thing. That, too, he knew.

S'jiro did pause momentarily then, fixing her with that more serious expression. "I need to deliver some drinks. I'll come get you for a dance later." With that, he stepped back from the circle of her friends and turned to walk back to his table.

PostSubject: Re: A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr]   A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] I_icon32Wed May 21, 2014 8:14 pm

Veyani

While not one of her friends paid them any attention, she knew they were all thinking about how foolish she was. Honestly, she couldn't care less how they felt about S'jiro. How she felt was what mattered. And in the end it didn't seem to matter that he had come here with someone else. It was clear to her that he would rather be with her. Why else would he have followed her?

And he also gave her a kiss in return for the one she had given him. In public! Which she knew was not something most Holders, even Holders turned dragonrider felt comfortable doing. So when she sensed he wasn't quite as ardent in his kiss as he normally was, she assumed that was the reason behind it.

The corners of her mouth lifted in a smile. She didn't need to say anything, they both fully understood where things were going. It didn't matter to her that he had to spend some time with other people. She had friends she wanted to see and dance with too. Of course she would prefer to dance with S'jiro.

Mostly because the thought of him touching her always thrilled her and the idea of being close to him was always more than appealing. Veyani was ever the optimist. "Okay. Just do me a favor. Smile." She said sweetly, "Its a party, not a funeral."
She figured he didn't want to spend time with Indylari but had to. Since he had to do it, there wasn't much fun to be had. However he should try and enjoy it even if he didn't get to spend all evening with her.

Besides he had time with her alone to look forward to. "I can't wait." she said as much to herself as to him because she was that excited about dancing with him and of course, dessert
.

A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr]   A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] I_icon32Wed May 21, 2014 9:03 pm

S'JIRO

Wanting to smile for her just then, but unable, the Bronzerider seemed to partially ignore the things that she said just then, before leaving here there with her friends. He knew she was right, that a Masquerade was a place to have fun; and has he been here -with Indy even- under different circumstances, he might have been able to enjoy himself a little more. But Veyani didn't know why he'd come with Indylari -she only assumed. And Veyani didn't know that the thing he'd decided to carry out, after tonight, might just make him want to die. Maybe it would turn into a funeral, after all.

Returning to his table, S'jiro did manage a more pleasant expression, not looking quite as serious, as he placed his and Indylari's wine glasses on the table beside their plates. Seating himself next to her again, the Bronzerider decided to focus on the conversation between the ladies or the other Bronzeriders, and try to actively engage himself as a part of it. He suspected that doing so would help pass the time a little more quickly.

Unfortunately, as he joined in eating and conversing with the group, it only seemed as though time had slowed itself to a near stop, so that seconds seemed like minutes, and minutes seemed like hours. S'jiro found it difficult not to be completely distracted by thoughts about what he knew was all about to take place.

D'NIER

They Weyrleader had been making his way through the ever more dense crowds, Karene at his side, so that they could present themselves to the event's guests. They'd managed to circle the room probably about two full rounds so that no consequential greetings were missed, before D'nier tired of it. Karene may have noticed that his attention had been drifting periodically toward the far wall where the stand was set up for serving alcohol.

Hey, just one more glass couldn't hurt; They hadn't even eaten yet. And either way, D'nier was perfectly adept at nursing a glass as he was finishing it.

The one eye good eye that the man had, turned upon the Weyrwoman just then, "I would love to try some of that new Benden Reserve that was just delivered. I heard it came with the last Caravan. Sending my pleas back home, must have worked. I assume they probably sent a few barrels of the good stuff up to Igen Weyr as requested, too." He hadn't forgotten that that was their little bribe to coerce the Headwoman and Zorayda into going.

Grinning at that, there came no attempt to hide the roguish gleam in his eye. Of course, that was frequently present.

"Would you like to sit down to eat? If you tell me what your pleasure is, I'll gladly go get the drinks."

A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr]   A Night of Masquerade [Tags all Fort Weyr] I_icon32Sun May 25, 2014 3:43 pm

Karene

Karene had been born into a life where duties like this were normal. She was perfectly at ease greeting people, having a few moments of small talk and then moving on to the next group. She didn't really tire of it so much as she looked forward to other duties of the evening. Such as dancing and feasting. Surely no one would fault either the Weyrleader or herself for wanting to move things along. She had also begun to notice his attention span was pretty much non-existent now. He would be wanting something to whet his thirst.

"Yes, thank you D'nier. Wine would be lovely, I'm sure you are far better at choosing the wine than I am. I'll trust your judgement." He would be sure to pick the best quality. Not a bad attribute to have really. At least he would be feeling quite inebriated by the end of the evening.

After D'nier had won Galadrieth last time, she wasn't sure what to expect from him. He had been new to Fort and certainly new to the rumors circulating around her. Now though it seemed everything had worked out for the good. He didn't really interfere much when she wanted to take charge of things. Which was probably smart of him because she found herself less likely to get involved in things he should be in charge of. He was also not all that concerned that she had a lover who was not a rider. Or at least, he acted as if that didn't matter to him.

While D'nier went for drinks, she couldn't help but let her gaze leave the people milling about to stare in the direction of the Harpers. Or at one particular Harper.  Andris might not be a dragonrider but that might also be part of the appeal.

Veyani

Veyani was back with her friends in no time, but she did spare a moment to glance back and watch the Bronzerider disappear. She ate a little during the feasting, but her nerves and excitement had gotten the better of her so she ate but she ate very light foods.

She was talking too much really to eat anyway. Talking, laughing, generally having a good time. After her second or third? glass of wine, she went looking for the fabulous bluerider who had made her dress.

"N'kai!" She said, when she recognized him finally. Giving him a big hug and then moving away enough so as not to be in his personal bubble. "Thank you so much for the dress. It is amazing."

Thanekar

The Candidate could have sworn the area had been clear of onlookers when he had poured into the punch bowl but as he was putting his flask away, he thought perhaps the Weyrleader had seen him. Nah. It was all in his head. Besides the Weyrleader seemed like a chill guy. He'd have to be to put up with his mother.

He would much rather be caught by his father or the Weyrleader than his mother. Speaking of mothers, where had Jadrek gotten off to. He was missing all the fun! Typical. It was like pulling teeth getting that guy to help him in these sorts of pranks anyway.

Still he had no one to fall back on to get them out of it if the Weyrleader had seen him. He hadn't though. Of course not. Thanekar had been quick and sneaky. No one would have seen what he had done, let alone a man with an eye patch.

Indylari

S'jiro had taken some time coming back with the wine but she wasn't going to press him about why. He was entitled to some time to get his head wrapped around what was now going to happen. Whether they liked it or not they were on the way to getting married soon. Their parents had seen to that. What either of them felt or said was not important.

The only thing stopping the Wedding from happening right now was the fact that Galadrieth had flown and it was another opportunity for her to Impress. So as long as there was a Gold Egg on the sands, the wedding could be put off just a little bit longer. Or her parents and S'jiro's would have to go head to head with the Weyrwoman. She'd really like to see them try.

Taking the glass he offered, she made a quick thank you and went back to chatting with the other girl. Of course she ate when the food came out as delicately as any lady holder would. She was however, looking forward to dancing and did not fill herself up too much on food.

[... and then something unexpected happened...Randomized event!]

Passing by with a tray topped with two pitchers just filled, to be set back out on tables, a drudge avoids collision with a masked party-goer, but unintentionally he bumps into the back of Indylari's chair instead. The motion sends the tray off balance, spilling its contents.

Did the pitchers overturn on her?
On those next to her (Z'rim's date, etc)?
Or luckily not at all?

What will she do?

Indylari was so immersed in what was going on, she hardly noticed the drudge with the pitchers. That was unil the drudged bumped into her chair, spilling the contents of the pitchers back onto the drudge and consequently on Indylari as well. The liquid was cold so she gasped at the sensation and got royally pissed off too. However, she knew not to take out her frustration on the lesser people. They were lesser because of things like that after all.

The drudge kept apologizing although the drudge had gotten the brunt of it. Still, that totally meant she had to go and clean up and change and come back. Who knew what she would miss in that time. This had been the perfect opportunity for her to dance with S'jiro and if he was otherwise occupied when she got back, she would have missed her chance to try to feel something for him. Dancing with someone was a good way to test out chemistry too. And now that they both knew there was no getting out of their arrangement, they might both be more willing to try the courtship approach.

"Please, excuse me." She said, standing, as she felt the liquid travel down from her hair, past her neck, down her back and onward. This was so awkward and embarrassing. She hoped that drudge truly felt horrible for what she had done.
